World Future Energy Summit 2024 in Full Swing

Global leaders convene in Abu Dhabi for a three-day summit, focusing on 1.5°C climate pathways, renewable energy expansion, and female-led innovations, reinforcing UAE's environmental commitment.

The World Future Energy Summit 2024, has commenced at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre this week, drawing global attention to the UAE capital. The 16th edition of the summit, opening its doors for a three-day run, is meant to address the imperative laid down at COP28 in Dubai last November for advancing the change agenda towards sustainable energy.

With over 350 international experts, policymakers, academics, and industry leaders participating, the summit boasts its most knowledge-sharing program to date. Five conferences and three forums will delve into navigating COP28's frameworks, focusing on sustainability and renewable energy goals amidst technological advancements, changing policies, and economic shifts.

Leen AlSebai, General Manager of RX Middle East and Head of the World Future Energy Summit, emphasised the event's role as a global think tank, dedicated to illuminating solutions for challenges and blueprints for a sustainable future. The summit underscores the UAE's commitment to global sustainability and environmental cooperation.

The summit's agenda encompasses conferences on Solar, EcoWaste, Water, Clean Energy, Smart Cities, and Climate & Environment, along with forums addressing to limiting global warming to 1.5°C, Green Finance, and e-Mobility. Speakers from various sectors will explore strategies to triple renewable power generation capacity, double energy efficiency, and curb methane emissions, among other ambitious targets.

The opening address on guiding nations towards a 1.5°C climate pathway will be delivered by Her Highness Sheikha Shamma bint Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, President & CEO of the UAE Independent Climate Change Accelerators, followed by Francesco La Camera, Director-General of the International Renewable Energy Agency.

Day one's focus on pathways to 1.5°C will feature discussions led by experts like Simon Birkebaek and Mary Burce Warlick, addressing clean energy outcomes from COP28 and necessary actions to fulfil energy commitments. Panel discussions will include industry leaders like H.E. Eng. Saeed Ghumran Al Remeithi, Abdulnasser Bin Kalban, and Eng. Ali Al Dhaheri, exploring strategies to meet the 1.5°C climate threshold.

Simultaneously, the Solar & Clean Energy Conference will feature officials such as H.E. Eng Sharif Al Olama and H.E. Ahmed Alkaabi, discussing issues related to energy and water sectors.

The summit also highlights increased female participation, with women speakers offering perspectives on climate change, sustainable tourism, smart city technology, and more. A panel on female entrepreneurs leading decarbonisation and the Climate Innovations Exchange initiative will provide a platform for showcasing solutions.

In summary, the World Future Energy Summit 2024 emerges as an event uniting global stakeholders to lead tangible actions towards a sustainable energy future, reaffirming the UAE's commitment to environmental stewardship on the world stage.
