Hawkamah, the Institute for Corporate Governance and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development announced that the 7th Middle East and North Africa Corporate Governance Conference will be held from November 24 to 25, 2013 at the Meydan Hotel in Dubai, UAE. The Conference will be held under the patronage of His Excellency Eng. Sultan Al Mansoori, UAE Minister of Economy.
The two-day event will feature prominent speakers from close to 20 countries and is expected to attract governance practitioners, owners, Board members, CEOs, CFOs and CROs, regulators, thought leaders, academics and members of the media from all across the world.
With the theme of Corporate Governance is Leadership Excellence, the Conference focuses on the impact of corporate governance on performance and sustainability of businesses, the wider economy and society. This year it will highlight four key areas – Bank Governance, Governance of State Owned Entities, Subsidiary Governance and Family Governance – and will link these with sustainability, performance, cultural and ethical dimensions, board effectiveness and diversity.
HE Hamad Buamim, Chairman of Hawkamah, said: “An effective governance framework is one that is built on the corporate values and a system of transparency and accountability that drives sustainable business performance and competitiveness. Corporate governance is about leadership, it is about providing a structure that enables long term sustainability of the organisation.”
Leonardo Peklar, CEO of Hawkamah, stated that too often, corporate governance is equated with compliance, and its role in value creation is often overlooked. This Conference will explore the topic of corporate governance as leadership excellence. The aim is to complement Hawkamah’s regional policy work by providing practical tools on implementation of good corporate governance.
