The Business Excellence Department at the Department of Economic Development (DED) will conduct a specialised workshop on 18th and 19th of June to train new applicants in the 2012 cycle of the Dubai Human Development Award (DHDA) on writing a successful award submission.

Around 25 applicants from various sectors such as services, transportation, manufacturing, trade, telecom, finance, hospitality, travel, construction and the government will attend the workshop. The last date for receiving the final DHDA submission document is the 30th of October, 2012.

The workshop is part of encouraging employers to participate in DHDA and promoting national human resource development in line with the award’s objectives. DHDA is open to all UAE-based establishments in the private and government sectors that invest in national human resources and facilitate their growth and development within the organisation.

“The Dubai Human Development Award assumes great significance in view of the growing number of young UAE nationals joining the workforce and the increasing challenges to Emiratisation,” commented Mohammed Bushanain, Executive Director, Corporate Quality & Management Excellence and the Business Excellence Department of DED.

“The award recognises best practices in providing an adequate growth environment for UAE nationals within organisations. It also promotes close co-operation between the government and the private sector and encourages companies and establishments in Dubai to evaluate and reiterate their commitment to national human resources development,” added Bushanain.

DHDA is given in three categories – The Dubai Human Development Appreciation Programme (DHDAP), The Dubai Human Development Award and the Gold Category. The award covers a range of economic sectors including trade, manufacturing, construction, professional, financial, services, tourism, healthcare, higher education, and government.

Applications will be evaluated by a team of experts, who will conduct site visits and prepare detailed assessment reports highlighting existing best practices and areas for improvement in each company. The examiners evaluate applications on the basis of four criteria – commitment (20 %), process (45%), results (29%) and contribution to society (six per cent).

“Participants in the workshop will get a clear idea of the processes and criteria involved in assessing the human resource environment and practices for the award. It also helps them to self-assess their eligibility for DHDA, bridge gaps and make a foolproof bid for the award,” said Indu Singhal, the trainer for the workshop, a Team Leader and Senior Assessor of the Dubai Quality Award (DQA), DHDA and Managing Director of Emirates Business Management International Consultants.

Applicants interested in attending the DHDA workshop are requested to register immediately on or call +971 4-4455833.
